Pastor Marvin O. Nunn

Marvin gave his life to Christ in his late teens and began his service for the Lord. He was groomed, trained and biblically taught by two of the finest examples; the late Bishop Shepherd Little, Founder and then Pastor of King of Glory, as well as the late Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop Louis H. Ford. He has served in many capacities of the church including maintenance, bus and jail ministry for more than 20 years, Usher Board and taught Sunday School for many years. Marvin was also the Chaplain for the Deacon Board.

The call to ministry came
June 24, 1984 and his answer then and now continues to be “Yes Lord”. Marvin received certification and completion of church history and doctrine “with honors” from the Charles H. Mason Bible Institute in 1991 and was ordained an “Elder”. He has begun his studies at the Moody Bible Institute seeking to obtain a degree in Bible Studies.

Shortly before becoming an ordained Elder, the late Bishop Ford appointed Marvin to serve as an interim Pastor at Paradise Temple Church of God in Christ. This was a most crucial time of adjustment; for the church had just lost their founder and pastor to cancer. He was sent to this church by Bishop Ford to help learn and develop leadership skills. During the two years of service there, he found himself to be an important pillar of strength. It kept him humble and before the Lord in fasting and prayer for God’s guidance in leading his people. Bible classes were established for the members. Through God’s guidance, he met the challenge and proved to be a spiritual tower of encouragement.

In 1995, Marvin was led to unite with the
Evangelistic Crusaders Church where the Founder and Pastor was Elder George Liggins. In his endeavor to be a team player, he was led by God to join an auxiliary of the church called the Soul Winning Team. Here Marvin was given the task of coordinating the annual outdoor Soul Winning Rally for three years, coordinating the follow-up calls for the new male converts, visiting the sick and shut in and conducting “bible book series” for the “Catch Fire Adult Class” going through books of the bible – verse by verse. The most recent was an eight-month venture into the Book of Revelation.

Marvin along with his wife of 30 years, Cynthia (musician and songwriter), has traveled overseas, as far away as Sweden, Germany, and Paris, as well as in the United States. God has commissioned him to preach and teach the word of God to many races and denominations; knowing no barriers.

In 1992, Marvin, while studying God’s word, read
Luke 1:78, “Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us.”  The Lord impressed upon his heart, the name Dayspring, Marvin knew that God had given that name to him for His church. At that time, all God had given was the name. Marvin knew to wait on the hand of the Lord to move. In January of 2002, the Lord spoke and he stepped out into God’s vineyard.

On March 6, 2002 Dayspring Ministries COGIC, had its first Service and Meeting at his home. On March 10, 2002, Dayspring Ministries COGIC had its first worship service at Lincoln School in Dolton, IL. On May 19, 2002, Dayspring Ministries COGIC held its services at Evangelical Christian School, at 9130 S. Vincennes, in Chicago, IL. The Lord has allowed Dayspring to dwell in the facilities of Grace Methodist Church located at 12739 Maple Avenue, in Blue Island Illinois since September 12, 2004. From that moment DaySpring has continued to grow.
